In Texas, homeowners’ or renters’ insurance is usually the first payer for biohazard and crime scene cleanup. If insurance does not apply, the Texas Crime Victims’ Compensation Program can reimburse up to $2,250 for crime scene clean-up, according to the Texas Office of the Attorney General, for crimes after July 14, 2016. It covers removing stains, odors, broken glass and other debris, plus professional cleaning services and supplies, but not repairs.
| Payer | What it covers | What you need |
|---|---|---|
| Homeowners’ or renters’ insuranceUsually first | Cleanup and often related restoration, depending on the policy. | Your policy details. We document the scene and itemize the invoice for your insurer. |
| Texas Crime Victims’ CompensationLast resort | Removing stains, odors, broken glass and other debris, plus professional cleaning services and supplies: up to $2,250 for clean-up (OAG). Structural repair is not covered. | A claim with the Attorney General, an itemized invoice, and proof that insurance does not apply or is used up. |
| Property owner or landlord policyVaries | Depends on your policy. | A written scope of work and documentation of the scene, which we provide. |
Wondering about price? The size of the area, how far contamination has reached into porous materials, odor and time since the incident all affect it. Our biohazard cleanup cost guide explains what drives the number. We never promise reimbursement, but we make the paperwork as easy as it can be.
If you are not sure which of these applies to you, that is normal. Call us before you file anything and we will help you work out the likely payer, what to photograph, and which documents your insurer or the Attorney General will ask for, at no cost and with no obligation.
The CVC Program is a last resort after insurance. To claim, the victim or claimant applies to the Attorney General, then submits an itemized invoice that separates clean-up from restoration, the service dates and address, the company’s Tax ID, and proof that insurance does not apply. Payment can go directly to the cleanup company if you have not already paid.
Most families have never heard of this program until they need it. We itemize our invoice the way the CVC requires, list the service dates and address clearly, and keep cleanup separate from any restoration work, so the claim is not held up by missing detail.
If insurance pays in full, you will not need the CVC at all. If it pays part, or the policy does not cover the loss, the program can help with what is left, within its limits. Read more on our crime scene cleanup service.

Up to $2,250 for crime scene clean-up (Texas OAG), for crimes after July 14, 2016. Insurance is used first. Structural repair is not covered. Read the OAG clean-up rules
Professional biohazard cleanup in San Antonio begins only after police or the Medical Examiner release the scene. A crew assesses the contamination, removes and disinfects affected materials, disposes of them as regulated medical waste, treats odor at the source, and documents the work for your insurer (OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, 29 CFR 1910.1030).
Free, discreet and available 24/7. Tell us what happened in your own words, as much or as little as you want.
We do not enter before police or the Medical Examiner release the scene. We can coordinate timing for you.
We map what is contaminated, including what has soaked into carpet, padding, drywall and other porous materials.
Affected materials are removed and surfaces disinfected with an appropriate disinfectant. Waste goes in closable, labeled, leak-proof containers as regulated waste.
Odor is treated at its source, the space is checked again, and you get documentation for your insurer.
Waiting does not make the risk go away. OSHA notes hepatitis B can survive longer than two weeks on environmental surfaces (OSHA interpretation, 2007), which is why we ask families not to clean the area themselves. See our full biohazard cleanup service.
In 2025 the Bexar County Medical Examiner investigated 2,802 deaths in the county and sent investigators to 1,866 scenes, including 176 homicides and 276 suicides (2025 Annual Report). After any of these, as well as unattended deaths, the home usually needs professional biohazard cleanup before family can safely return.
When someone passed away alone and was not found for some time, we restore the home with care and remove odor at its source.
Quiet, judgment-free help so your family does not have to face the room alone.
After an assault, accident or crime, we clean and document the scene once it is released.

Often, yes. Homeowners' and renters' policies are usually the first payer, though coverage depends on your policy and the cause of loss. We document the scene and itemize our invoice for your insurer so the claim is easier to file.
It can. The Texas Attorney General's program reimburses up to $2,250 for crime scene clean-up (Texas Attorney General), for crimes after July 14, 2016, but only after insurance, and it does not cover structural repair. You need an itemized invoice that separates cleanup from restoration. The OAG helpline is (800) 983-9933.
It depends on the size of the affected area, how far contamination has soaked into porous materials, odor and how long the scene sat before cleanup. Our cost guide breaks down typical price ranges by type of scene, and many families pay only their deductible when insurance applies. Request a free estimate for an exact figure.
Wait until police or the Medical Examiner have released the scene. Do not enter or try to clean the area yourself, because blood and bodily fluids can carry pathogens. Call (210) 864-1250 and we will walk you through the next step.
